“I nearly gave up with online dating, but now we’re engaged!” Meet Lisa and Andy, our latest Singles365.com success story!
We were delighted to receive an email from Lisa to say that Andy had popped the question and they are now engaged! Here’s their story:
Lisa’s Story
“We started chatting as friends at first, but we both wanted to meet each other, so we met up on the 28th June 2008 and had a lovely day. From then on we chatted on email and met up on weekends.
Then in January 2009 we decided to look for a house together. I found a new job in Cornwall and we bought a house in September 2009. On the 24th December 2009 Andy asked me to marry him, just before we travelled up to Devon to spend Christmas with my parents. The ring fitted perfectly!
Neither of us thought we would find anyone on the site, but thanks to Singles365.com, we have found kindred spirits in each other.”
What did you do on your first date?
“We decided that since Andy had pets and had to work that evening that I would travel down from Devon to Andy’s home and he would give me a grand tour of Newquay. It was a lovely hot day and we really got on straight away, walking and chatting.”
When did you both know this was something special?
“We were just very good friends to start with and the relationship just grew from there. It’s hard to pin point when we knew there was something special because we got on really well from the very first moment.
We like the same things, have almost the same opinions and both enjoy having a laugh. In some instances, we say the same things at the same time which always makes us laugh.”
How did Andy propose? Was it a surprise?
“It was Christmas Eve 2009 and I arrived home from work at lunch time. We were just about to drive to my parents for Christmas when Andy said he had an early Christmas present for me. He gave me a big hug, produced a small silver box and asked me to marry him. It was such a surprise, all I could do was nod – and then I started to cry because I was so happy!”
What’s the other one’s best quality?
“Andy is the most loving guy I’ve ever met; he is a good listener and a real gent.”
“Lisa is very thoughtful, caring and always puts other people first.”
Who sent who the ice-breaker message?
“Well this is where we differ, lol! Andy says I sent him a wink first, but I don’t remember so it must have been a while before he wrote a quick message to me. He wrote “Fancy a chat” – I remember it so clearly.
I had been online for about nine months before being contacted by Andy. I had cancelled my membership for a week then rejoined just 3 days before Andy contacted me, so you could say it was fate! Andy had been online dating for about a year. He’d met one person but the spark just wasn’t there.”
Did you think online dating would work for you when you first joined Singles365.com?
“I didn’t think online dating would come to anything for me. I joined a day after my 40th birthday because I felt life was passing me by. Andy didn’t think he would find anyone dating online either and joined on the spur of the moment, out of curiosity. But it just goes to show that you shouldn’t give up, because you never know when it will happen!”
