We’ve all been there… it’s a Sunday afternoon, your friends are busy, you’ve done the shopping, tidied the house, there’s nothing on the telly and you’re left home alone feeling bored and wishing you had someone to share your life with.  So, you decide to take the bull by the horns and go online!

You open up the laptop and start to browse through the profiles. You come across a few people you like the look of, but now what do you do?
Should you sign up straight away, and for how long?  What do you write in your profile?  What photos do you put up? What if someone you know sees you? What if you get a date!

Yes, online dating can seem daunting to the best of us at times, but the mistake so many of us make is to take a random approach to finding true love. You know, the one where you just quickly put up a profile, upload some old photo’s that you’ve got on your pc and say ‘that’ll do.’  Then you go ahead and wink at a few people in the hope that someone winks back.

Well this approach is likely to leave you frustrated and despondent.  So if you want to find love online you need to change your approach, and here are a few pointers that will help.

1. Stand out from the crowd: Learn how to express who you are in your profile with stories that will inspire the right person to contact you. Remember, you’re not looking for just anyone so your profile should be ‘talking’ directly to your ideal partner and getting you noticed for all the right reasons.

2. Be confident and clear on how great you are: Know what qualities you’ll be bringing to a new relationship and what past partners have loved about you.

3. Post great, natural looking photos: Use pictures that show you in lots of different everyday situations. Make them all within the last year, even if you love the one of you taken at Christmas 2007!

4. Be patient but persistent: Online dating takes time and commitment. Be sure to set aside enough time each week to make this work for you.

5. Keep things in balance: Remember that online dating is just one way of finding your ideal partner, so continue to go out with friends and enjoy life.  After all, that’s what will make you attractive to the right person at the end of the day.
